Yogyakarta – Public Relations: Supreme Court of the Republic of Indonesia held virtual Judicial Technical Upgrading and Administration on October 12-13, 2020, at Yogyakarta. This event was implemented in a very strict health protocol.

Since covid-19 announced as a global pandemic by World Health Organization (WHO) on March 11, 2020, then followed by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Indonesia Number 12 of 2020 on April 13, 2020, which declare that covid-19 is a national disaster, lifestyle, social relations, work patterns, and human interactions have change harshly. Besides, the law as one of the powerful aspects of social life is also affected.

In the remarks, Chief Justice Syarifuddin says that as a quick response to face this pandemic, the Supreme Court has issued Circular of the Supreme Court Number 1 of 2020 along with amendment, Circular of the Supreme Court Number 9 of 2020 as an amendment of the Circular Number 8 of 2020 as well as Circular of Secretary of the Supreme Court Number 8 of 2020, and nowadays the Supreme Court has issued Regulation of the Supreme Court Number 4 of 2020 on Criminal Administration and Hearing in Court electronically Especially in Criminal Cases, Military Cases and Jinayat. Now also studied e-litigation implementation in Appellate Court, as well as studied the development of mediation implementation electronically. “I hope the series of adjustment and innovation in procedural law will do not be an instant reaction response on this pandemic situation,” Syarifuddin hopes.

At the same time, Syarifuddin emphasizes that examination of an election dispute in Administrative High Court will be started on October 13, 2020,  meanwhile the schedule of the election scheduled to be carried out on December 9, 2020. He hopes that election dispute can be finished one month before election day as amended in Law Number 10 of  2016 on Second Amendment on Law Number 1 of 2015 on Governors, Regents, and Mayors election.

Besides, Syarifuddin also tells about integrity zone development to realize a Corruption-Free Region (WBK) and a Clean Free Service Area (WBBM). This former of Vice Chief Justice for judicial matters also reminds leaders, judges, and judiciary apparatus in all over Indonesia to obey Circular of the Supreme Court Number 7 of 2020 which forbidden illegal fees for the inauguration and also other official activities, including this Technical Upgrading event that has fully financed by the Supreme Court budget.

The last point stated by the Chief Justice is as following up of the President Decree, Supreme Court of the Republic of Indonesia has issued Regulation Number 3 of 2020 on Implementation of Providing Employee Performance Allowances within the Supreme Court and the Judiciary Bodies under it. This policy is followed up by the Decision of Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Number 209/KMA/SK/VIII/2020 on Adjustment of Performance Allowances Based on the Class of Positions of Employees in the Supreme Court and the Judiciary Bodies under it. 

At the end of the remarks, the Chief Justice remind all Judiciary apparatus to obey strictly health protocol namely, washing hand, wearing the mask, and distancing physically, as well as adapting to new normal during covid 19. “With these ways will protect not only ourselves but for people around us,” Syarifuddin says.

“I also advise you all to keep your spirits up and don't forget to always pray to Allah SWT. so that we all stay healthy and the Covid-19 pandemic can end soon,” Syarifuddin hopes.
